In Windows XP, lots of eye candy that we don't really need is turn on by default that take in resources and slowing it down. Here is a guide to disable them and and what you may not disable if you want to keep some of them while still saving system resources.
First open System Properties by pressing Windows + Pause|Break. Then go to the Advanced tab and click the Settings button under the Performance section.
There are two ways you can follow...
- Choose the 'Adjust for best performance' option. This will disable all XP eye candy and change the theme to Classic.
- Uncheck all the box except the four option checked in the image. This will remove unnecessary eye candy while still preserving the nice look of your system.
That's it, you have disable any unnecessary eye candy that suck resources. Still check out the themes that I use above in my post, Cool Windows 7 and Vista Like Themes for XP
