In Internet Explorer (IE), we already familiar with the SmartScreen filter which contains a list of known malicious links and compares the user visited links with the list. If a match is found, it warns the user. It seems Microsoft is going to implement this in Windows 8 too.
Said Long Zheng, in Windows 8, SmartScreen appears to serve two purposes – to reactively check the file system and proactively prevent any downloaded applications from running that are unknown to the filter.
The mechanisms are not turn on by default and can be easily turn on/off in the Folder Option as you can see in the image.
So what do you thing about this another security centric feature Microsoft add? And do you thing it will be a disaster like UAC ?
